John Mark Shaw is a Branding, Marketing & Business Development Consultant for the Hospitality Industry with over twenty-five years of world-class entrepreneurial, executive leadership and management experience – developing concepts, brands and strategic marketing plans as well as opening and running a wide range of hospitality and restaurant operations including 1, 2, 3 and 4-star fine dining, high-volume casual fine dining and casual dining, fast casual, institutional dining, retail, large scale on and off premise catering, premium vending operations, music venues, hotels, resorts and country clubs.

John has deep knowledge and extensive expertise in concept and brand development, including identifying the unique value proposition, developing the brand voice, messaging and the target audience(s) for the brand; as well as in the development and implementation of fully integrated strategic marketing plans across all channels and media, including PR, social media, website and SEO, email blast, traditional print and digital advertising (Google Adwords, paid Facebook, Paid Instagram, etc), local area marketing (community partnerships, direct outreach), CRM and loyalty programs, charitable partnerships, 4 wall marketing (signage, collateral), sales growth, private event and catering sales, marketing team training and development, and sales team salesmanship training and development. John specializes in growing brands, new restaurant and hospitality venue openings, company start-ups, re-brandings, capital raising, and turnarounds. John has a lifelong passion for and commitment to serving others by helping people and businesses grow.

John’s recent client projects include a boutique craft brewery branding and business expansion, a new fast casual restaurant concept development, branding and opening, developing a new website for a Hyatt resort, a country club rebranding, and a restaurant group relaunch, rebranding and operational turnaround where he developed new brand positioning, created a strategic marketing plan, hired and trained a new marketing team, and did a deep-dive into improving each operation, successfully turning negative growth into +15% YOY growth across all properties. John served for 10 wonderful years as the Co-Founder, Operating Partner & COO of Hill Country Hospitality, where he successfully built a $30 million company from the ground up, collaborating with the Founder & CEO on developing the concepts, brands, and all marketing and operating systems for two thriving, critically acclaimed brands, Hill Country Barbecue Market and Hill Country Chicken. Prior to Hill Country Hospitality, he served as COO of David Bouley’s Bouley International, GM for Danny Meyer’s Tabla & Bread Bar, and VP of Operations for Reed Hearon’s Nice Ventures in San Francisco, among other senior leadership positions. John also spent several years developing his marketing and branding skills as an account executive and creative director at a boutique advertising agency in NYC. John is a native New Yorker and received his undergraduate degree at Stanford University, a master’s degree from University of Southern California, and an Executive & Life Coaching certification from the Life Mastery Institute. John lives in Jersey City with his wife Donna, daughter Paloma, and puppy Daphne.
