Zachary “Schmackary” Schmahl is a born cookie monster. Hailing from Nebraska, and dubbed “Schamackary” by his school mates, Zach’s moved to NYC and realized there was something missing in the Big Apple. Known for his cooking baking creativity, Zach saw an opportunity to create many more cookie flavors while building a business that had and authentic heart and soul. With that thought in mind, Schmackary’s was born. First, out of his 400 square foot apartment and then just 1 year later at his first location at 45th Street & 9th Avenue in NYC’s theatre district.
Zach spoke passionately about the importance of creating a sense of “family” with his team members and this proposition has been very successful for him: his ability to attract and retain staff is a hallmark of the Schmackary’s brand. Currently the business features 85 flavors and Zach opened his second location in Cooper Square. Though they have tried to recreate the vibe of their first operation, Schmahl thinks each store will end up having its own feel so that they can serve different populations. No matter what, the Schmackary’s concept strives to create a comfortable space that reminds you of your childhood. For attendees at this meeting, that was exactly what happened.
